Jonestown Real Estate The Community of Jonestown is nestled in the beautiful north shore area of Lake Travis, located in the Central Texas Hill Country. Jonestown, originally settled in the 1930s, has a colorful history since its humble beginnings. The town founders were Emmet and Warren Jones, who had a vision of the future for a great retirement community. After years of the good life and country lakeside living, the residents finally decided to incorporate in the 1980s when it still had a population under 700. The city, while it has retained a large number of retired citizens, has shown high growth with young families who commute from the north shore area into Austin, Round Rock, and Georgetown. Jonestown was essentially a rural community until the 1990s, when growth began to surge. Jonestown's rural friendly atmosphere was very attractive to those seeking escape from the more densely settled areas of metropolitan Austin. And, with convenient access to major employers in the Austin area, Jonestown is ideal for families to live and play. The city recorded a population count of 1,869 for the 2005 census and currently has approximately 2,148, and is continuing it growth with quality of life in mind.
